(Southern Outlook Fund grant) This growing performance event stimulates artists and audiences to explore the political, psychological, sociological, and sexual issues surrounding gayness. The grant will be used to strengthen the administrative/organizational aspect of the event.

Charlotte Gay and Lesbian Film Series:

In support of the Visiting Artist Program, bringing in filmmakers for public discussions during the presentation of the film series, designed to bring independent, new and important gay and lesbian filmmakers to the Charlotte area.

This growing annual festival fosters awareness and appreciation of the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community through speakers, films, theater performances, comedians, booksignings, concerts, exhibitions, and a community potluck supper.

Charlotte Organizing Project;
Charlotte, NC $2,500
This multi-issue, community organizing group will focus on voter registration, education, and turnout, among its low-income and African American neighborhoods during this crucial election year.

Operation Spring Plant;
Oxford, NC $4, 000
This minority farmer group works to support its members through agricultural demonstrations, market development and community oriented leadership development workshops, designed to build a more skilled, knowledgable, and cooperating group of self-sustaining farmers.

Scott's Branch '76 Foundation;

An African American multi-issue community organizing effort in a very low-income area, designed to develop leadership, energize voters, improve recreational and educational opportunities for youth, and promote cultural awareness and pride within the community.

Alianza Hispana/Hispanic Alliance;

Support for a grassroots group organizing to help promote and secure the rights of Hispanic people in Johnson County, and educate the broader public around policies and issues of importance to immigrants, especially fair housing and law enforcement.

This group of Disability Rights leaders will provide non-violence training, education, and consciousness raising for emerging activists seeking just policies affecting people with disabilities.

Environment
Taylor Co. Environmental Task Force;
Butler, GA $4,500
The white controlled government had stalled elections for over ten years, battling district representation for this middle Georgia town. After successfully suing to win municipal elections, this African-American group is now struggling against one of the results of this long-term lack of power: a wastewater facility planned for the black side of this segregated town, with no knowledge of the plans by the affected community. The group has already exposed a history of water contamination by the only local industrial user of water, and lack of local government concern for the pollution.

Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation;

Part of a national organization working to promote fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of lesbian and gay issues in print and broadcast media, as a means of combating homophobia and discrimination.

Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Teachers Network;
NY, NY $3,500
To support Southeast-based organizing of this group working to build local chapters of educators and community people to counter the destructive effects of homophobia within the educational system.

North Carolina Lesbian and Gay Pride;
Winston-Salem, NC $2,000
To support workshops titled: "Moving Toward Healing: Bridging Issues of Race, Class, Gender and Sexual Orientation" during NC's Pride weekend.

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays/Metro South; Atlanta, GA $2,000
This new educational group in South Atlanta is working to fight homophobia through support, education and advocacy, designed to build more understanding and tolerance within local schools and churches.

This group advocates for Native American rights, against discrimination and for environmental protection and refurbishing, providing education on the history, culture and present status of Native Americans as a way of increasing attention to Native American issues.

A grassroots group battling several manifestations of long-term racism in Middle Georgia, primarily police discrimination and abuse, and environmental injustice, while also working to provide increased recreation and educational opportunities for youth.

Resources for Organizing
Project South; Atlanta, GA $2,500
This research and educational group will be continuing the Atlanta Book Club meetings, expanding the documentation of poverty and its effects throughout Georgia, and implementing the Olympics Initiative to document the history of the social, political and economic impact of Olympics on host cities in the past, as well as the current Games in Atlanta.

Women's Resource Center;

This growing multi-service resource center promotes the growth, productivity and well-being of all women through counseling, education, and referral to other resources. This grant will support the Peer Advocate program, training volunteers to effectively serve as advocates for women with a wide range of needs.

Empty the Shelters; Atlanta, GA $3,000
To support the Summer of Social Action, providing training and organizing experience for students placed to work with local anti-poverty and homeless organizing groups, as well as providing ongoing political education around the issues of poverty and homelessness for these interns.

Infiltrate the Enemy Camp;
Summerville, SC $3,000
Working with low-income youth in four public housing and low income communities, this group provides Homework Club/Computer Learning Centers, lifeskills and leadership training for youth, including training teenagers as tutors and staff trainees working in the program.

Kids-On-Line; Forest Park, GA $2,500
An emerging group providing computer literacy, job skills training, job placement assistance, and life-skills training for low-income youth needing to prepare to enter the high tech job market.

Newtown Florist Club; Gainesville, GA $2,500
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? This forty-four year old African American women's organization has moved from providing support at times of bereavement, to addressing civil rights, voting rights, environmental racism, and this grant will support their "Youth Development and Enrichment Program" emphasizing cultural pride while preparing for the modern world.

Taxpayer's Advocacy and Support Coalition; Hardeeville, SC $2,500
This community-based youth program addresses political and environmental awareness, while encouraging sound educational and healthy personal development in youth ranging from 4 to 19 years of age.
