#BlackLivesMatter is calling national attention
to the harsh and deadly treatment of black men throughout our country
today. We are reminded daily the important on-going struggle for
social justice in our communities.
One of The Fund's past grantees Alternate ROOTS provides much
insight into the recent tragic events of Baltimore, Ferguson and more.
As recently published in their online newsletter, Ashley Minner, a
community-based visual artist shared her unique perspective as a
resident of Baltimore. Please read her article here.
At this time, we must reflect on the timeless words
of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Raise the National Minimum
Wage
This is something that is long over due: the raising of
the national minimum wage. We applaud the many communities and states
that have passed their own wage increases, however, a fare hourly rate
should be madatory throughout the entire United States.
Secretary Tom Perez's recent blog, "Let's Raise the
Wage Already" can read in full here.
Secretary Perez states, "We need to raise the
national wage floor, and I join with the President in lending our full
support to a new minimum wage bill introduced by Sen. Patty Murray and
Rep. Bobby Scott that would benefit 38 million people.

Establishing a donor advised fund and giving through FSC
means that you establish a giving program for yourself, your family or
your business that offers the following advantages.
- Permanence: A
donor can create an endowed fund with the knowledge that it will
be managed in perpetuity and that the gift will always serve a
useful purpose. Potential grantees are investigated and grants are
monitored by staff and the FSC Grants Committee.
- Recognition: By
establishing a named, permanent fund within the FSC organization,
a donor has an opportunity to honor a loved-one, friend or issue
area. Donors may remain anonymous if they so desire.
- Flexibility: A
donor can specify the particular charitable field-of-interest to
which distribution from his or her fund is to be made, designate
that grants are to be made only to a specific geographic area, or
advise FSC as to which charitable organizations should receive
grants.
